Let’s Talk About Battlefield V – It Had To Happen

Where do I even start with this one! Well, I start from the beginning. I was somewhat interested to make comeback to the Battlefield game this time because they are going back to the World War II setting. Yes, I was sick and tired of WWII games too back in the day but it’s a such a long time when I last played WWII shooter and it would be actually nice to see those battlefields, guns, vehicles, and soldiers getting at it again with the today’s technology and high graphical fidelity that wasn’t possible back then.

So, I wanted to like this game but it’s 2018 and I should have known better, of course, I will be disappointed like there’s no tomorrow. When I first saw the cover image of the game I knew here we go, it’s going to be full throttle social justice warrior or SJW bullshit.

Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against having females in video games, quite an opposite actually, I usually prefer to play as a woman when given the option because as a straight white male I prefer to look at a female figure. So, what’s wrong with the Battlefield V then, you might ask? Well, two things.

First, it’s an immersion breaker in a game that’s usually known for its authenticity to any given settings they have been at and this time it’s World War II, you get my drift don’t you? Even though, there were some female combatants in WWII in some cases it sure wasn’t the norm. Females just simply put weren’t allowed in the military. Maybe if this was marketed as an alternative reality WWII game I wouldn’t have any problem with it at all. But it isn’t, it’s marketed as authentic World War II battlefield experience.

Second, and this is the big one, the main reason I don’t approve this. The reason why they did this. The political agenda. They want to be politically correct. Whatever you want to call it. Like I said, I don’t have issues females being in the games in general, the issue is why. So, they might have found some scenarios where there were actually female combatants and used it but the reasons why they went that route is clear as the day I write this. Funny thing is that the only character on that Battlefield V reveal trailer who has a long coat is the woman, to make sure that we can’t see her ass. Why don’t make her fat while you are at it?!

Don’t believe me? Well, they admitted officially that this is the case. This is an actual quote from DICEs Alan Kertz from Reddit:

I knew this was going to be a fight when i pushed for female soldiers in Battlefield. I have a daughter, and I don’t want to ever have to answer her question of “why can’t I make a character that looks like me” with “because you’re a girl.”

I fundamentally feel to my core this is the right way and I will find myself on the right side of history.

And I think many people will play the game despite their reservations. And maybe learn something about either history or themselves. That is part of the making games art.

I hope I don’t need to dissect this comment for you. If I do, I feel bad for you. It should be clear that I cannot support this game in any circumstances and you shouldn’t either. Of course, it’s up to you but the only language these companies understand is money. Don’t give yours to them if you don’t like what they are offering. There will be games after this and if this one performs under their expectations, they will find out why. But if you are loud on the internet but they still do the numbers they want, they will completely ignore that noise.
